Installing FrontPage Extensions

Before publishing with FrontPage you must install the FrontPage extensions. You can do this yourself in your Control Panel.

Go to your Control Panel. Click the "FrontPage Extensions " icon and then click on the Install Extensions button.

IMPORTANT: Installing or Uninstalling Frontpage extensions will result in the loss of all .htaccess files in your web area. Any directories you have protected with WebProtect will become unprotected until you reprotect them.

Publishing with FrontPage

When you click "Publish", you will be prompted for the name of the server to publish to. Enter either "yourdomain.com". You will then be asked for the username and password for your domain.

Troubleshooting FrontPage Publishing

If your page won't publish properly, here is a checklist to see if you missed something important. Review this before contacting support!

  • Are the FrontPage extensions installed properly? Did you wait at least 10 minutes after clicking "Install FrontPage "? If you are using the domain name to publish, are you sure it is pointing to our servers? Has the name been fully registered & propagated yet?

  • Did you put anything in front of the server name in the "Publish to:" box? You should *not* use "ftp://" in front of the address as the site will not publish correctly.

  • Did you name your first page for your site with a valid file name? If not, you will see the "Under Construction..." page when accessing your site. This does not mean your site did not publish! Rename your main page to one of the acceptable file names (see below). Remember, the names are case-sensitive!

ACCEPTABLE INDEX FILE NAMES (in order of precedence):

default.htm
index.phtml
index.pht
index.cgi
index.shtml
index.htm
index.html
index.php
index.php3
